Week 2

The Happy Hedgehogs have had another brilliant week at school.
This has been a week of firsts! We have had our first phonics lessons. Phonics is when we teach the children the link between letters and the sounds they make. We will use phonics to teach your children to read and spell. This week we have introduced the letters: s, a, t and p.
The children have been practising their letter formation in their daily phonics sessions. We have been encouraging the children to hold their pen in a tripod grip and not with a full palm grip.
The children have also been engaging in daily 'dough disco' sessions. This is where your child manipulates a small ball of playdough in time to music. This strengthens the muscles in their hands and fingers, to support their pencil grip and control.
The children also had their first PE lesson on Tuesday. We went into the school hall and practised moving in different ways and stopping on a given signal.
The Hedgehogs have continued to impress us in the dinner hall. The children are growing in confidence and independence every day.
Next week we will investigate similarities and difference between ourselves and our classmates. Please support your child by talking to them about their hair and eye colour. Also discuss things the children are really good at, as we will be discussing our strengths and the things we like to do.
As always, any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to ask.
