Another Busy Week!
We have had lots of fun this week learning all about our amazing bodies. The children have investigated their senses by playing games involving listening, feeling and smelling to identify what an object was. We have learnt about our bones and the children have helped Mrs Dean to put a skeleton back together again, after reading the story Funny Bones.
We have spent lots of time outside, developing our core body strength and coordination. The children have really enjoyed making their own obstacle courses with their friends in the large construction area.
In phonics the children have been introduced to the letters h, b, f and l this week. We have begun to segment the sounds in words to spell them. The children listen to a simple, three letter (consonant, vowel, constant) words, such as mug. They listen carefully for the three sounds (m-u-g), each time they hear a new sound they hold up one of their 'segmenting fingers', until they have heard all three sounds. They then attempt to write down the letters to match these three sounds. This is something you could practise at home. What sounds can you heard in the word: f-a-t, b-i-g or h-a-t etc.
In maths this week we have been investigating repeating patterns. The children have copied, continued and created their own patterns. Today we printed repeating patterns using vegetables and two different colours of paint.
Next week, we will be investigating the season of autumn in greater detail. We will learn what happens to trees, the weather and animals in this magical season. If anyone still has any autumn objects at home, we would love to see them next week, particularly conkers if you can find any.
The children will also be learning all about keeping healthy, we will be tasting some healthy foods and learning about how keeping clean, getting exercise and having a healthy diet all contribute towards a healthy lifestyle.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the autumnal weather!
