Driffield Church Of England Voluntary Controlled Infant School

Thank you very much to everyone who attended our stay and play on Wednesday. The children loved showing you around and playing alongside you. This is something that will take place again in the near future, so please look out for dates. 

This week, the Badgers have enjoyed learning all about our bodies! We have introduced our first non-fiction book and found out lots of interesting facts about the human body. We also enjoyed our visit to the school library, which is something that we do each week. 

Over the last couple of weeks, the children have been practising three songs in preparation for our Harvest Celebration. 

We have been developing our gross motor skills in PE this week, playing lots of team games and testing our balance as we hopped around! 

This week in phonics, we have introduced the sounds h, b, f and l. And our new tricky word is ‘the’. As well as this, the children have started to write CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words. This involves segmenting a word by identifying the three sounds in it. For example when spelling ‘red’ break it down to r-e-d. It would be great for the children to practise writing some CVC words at home. 

Examples to try: bed, cot, tap, pat, sit, red 

Next week, we will be learning all about Autumn and the changes that happen as we enter a new season.
