Bumblebee Class

5 December 2024 (by schoollogin)

The children in The Hive have been busy fingerprinting baubles for the Methodist Messy Church Nativity event – details for attending can be accessed via https://www.driffieldmethodists.org.uk/christmas2022atdriffield.htm and everyone is welcome to attend. We have also enjoyed some music making in the classroom using a range of musical instruments.

It is ‘Christmas Around the World Day’ in School today and each class is finding out about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world. In The Hive we are going to be looking at how Christmas is celebrated in England. One of the things we are going to be making is Christmas crackers  as tradition tells of how Tom Smith (1823–1869) of London invented crackers in 1847. He created the crackers as a development of his bon-bon sweets, which he sold in a twist of paper (the origins of the traditional sweet-wrapper). As sales of bon-bons slumped, Smith began to come up with new promotional ideas!

Our rehearsals for ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ are well underway and we are hopeful that some of the children will be keen to perform on stage next week. If you are yet to provide a costume/clothes for your child and are having difficulty doing so then please speak to a member of the staff team so that we have time to sort something before next week. Thank you to the parents who have provided costumes or have asked for one to be provided by school.

This week’s colour is orange and next week it will be pink.

The Nursery rhyme next week will continue to be Twinkle Twinkle Little Star: https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/#tabnametabNurseryRhymesDownloads

We have lots of things coming up to help with the festive spirit; on Monday, we have a pantomime performed to the children in school, we also have our Nativity next week. Following that we have the Nativity in Church performed by Year One children to look forward to (some of the children will be going to watch that) and The Christmas Tree Festival in Church which some of the children will be going to. Our Hive Christmas Party is Monday 16th (that day your child is invited to come wearing party clothes for the day)

Keep an eye on the Newsletter as that has all of the relevant dates on there.
