What a busy week!

We have had lots of exciting activities and special events this week in Hedgehog Class! Today we went to the library. The children had a tour of the library and played a game to find out all about the books and how you borrow them. They had some time to look through the books and choose one they wanted to bring home. The children then learnt how to use the machine to take out the books. If your child brought their own library card from home, I have returned it in their bookbag today. If you filled in a slip, your child has been given a library card and they have that in their bookbag. If you forgot to fill in the slip, just pop into the library and they will be able to sort you out a library card for your child. Most of the children have borrowed a book from the library. They can have the book at home for up to 3 weeks, but then it must be returned to Driffield library, opposite school. The children's behaviour while we were in the library was fantastic and I was very proud to take them.

This week we have also been learning about how we can help birds in winter. We made a bird feeder from a plastic bottle and we have hung it in the garden at the front of school. We really hope to spot some birds using it soon.

We have continued our daily phonics lessons, this week we have learnt the new sounds: oo as in zoom, oo as in book, ar as in march and or as in fork. Please try to practise these new digraphs as home, as a few of us are mixing them up when we see them in words. We have also continued with our letter formation this week. Many of the children have made brilliant progress with remembering where to start each letter. If you are doing any writing at home, please remind your child about where to start and finish each letter, the formation rhymes sent out last term are really useful for this.

In maths this week we have been thinking about number composition, finding two smaller numbers which can go together to make a bigger number. For example, 3 and 1 can make 4 and 3 and 2 can make 5. We have also been consolidating our learning about mass/weight. The children have been using bucket balances to find objects heavier and lighter than a glue stick. In today's lesson, the children have been using cubes to weigh objects, finding out how many cubes will balance the object in the other side.

This week we have also been moving like the seven dwarfs in our dance lesson, moving happily, in a sleepy way and in a grumpy way etc. We also played parachute games on the playground and continued to learn about sea creatures. A big thank you to Lochlan and Maximus who brought in some facts about under the sea creatures. Don't forget, if you have interesting facts, please send them in to school.

Thank you for your continued support, have a lovely weekend with your family,

Mrs Dean & Miss Wain
