Badgers Class

7 February 2025 (by schoollogin)

This week, we have started on our Environmentalism project. The children have really enjoyed learning about what we can do to look after our world and everything in it. Our main focus in EYFS is what we can do to keep our sea plastic free. To support this, our story this week has been 'Duffy's Lucky Escape' by Ellie Jackson. This story is based on a real life event where a sea turtle consumed a plastic bag. We discussed the importance of recycling and what we can do to help to keep our sea plastic free.
Following on from this- and as part of our Art curriculum- we have created a sea turtle collage using a variety of recycled materials. This will be on display, alongside lots of lovely pictures and comments of the children's work in our Environmentalism Exhibition next Thursday (13th) at 2pm in the hall. Please come along and to have a look at our display and everything we have been learning.

In Phonics, we have continued to read longer words and explored compound words (two smaller words put together to make a new word for example: carpark, farmyard, bedroom)

In Maths, our focus has been doubles to 5. The children have used numicon to find their double partner, and have been drawing spots on butterflies wings to make a double.

The children are very excited four our trip to The Deep on Tuesday! Throughout the day, we will be extending our current knowledge of our sea creatures. The children will take part in a workshop, linked to our Environmentalism project, all about plastic pollution and what we can do to reduce it.
Packed lunches and drinks will be provided. Please ensure your child arrives to school on time and wearing their school uniform.

If you have any further questions about anything happening next week, please feel free to ask.

One more week to go till half term!

Have a great weekend,

Miss Corrigan and Mrs Chapman.
