A brilliant first week back!
This half term, our focus is 'Around the Town'. This week, we started to explore maps! We created our very own map of our route from the classroom to the dinner hall, thinking carefully about what we pass on the way. As you make your journey to school it would be a great idea to have a discussion with your child what you pass on the way! For example Lidl, the vets, garage etc. In our classroom, the children have loved playing in our new supermarket role play area- taking on the role of cashier behind the tills and customers using money to pay for their items.
Our story this week has been Rosie's walk by Pat Hutchins- the children have enjoyed retelling the story, recalling Rosie's route in the correct order using prepositional language (around, across, under etc).
In Maths our focus has been length height and time. We have used key words short and long when we measure length, short and tall as we measured height, and looked closely at the duration of 1 minute by seeing how many cubes the children could add to their tower in that time! Next week, we will be moving on to exploring numbers 9 and 10.
In Phonics, we have had a good revision of all the GPCs and tricky words taught so far.
In PE, our new topic is Fitness. On Tuesday, we started off with different types of jumps including star jumps, straight jumps, bunny hops and hopping on one foot!
Next Thursday (6th) we are celebrating World Book Day! The day will be fun filled with lots of different activities for the children to take part in. Parents and carers are invited to join us from 2.30pm to read a story with your child in their classroom.
Just a reminder that entries for our World Book Day competition need to be in school by Thursday (6th). Find details below:
Your challenge, for our competition, is to create your own goonie! If you had magical powers to turn someone into a goonie; what would it look like? You can draw or make a model of your goonie. Get creative and have fun!
Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
