World Book Day and so much more!

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day. The focus of the day was fluency. We wanted the children to learn a part of a story and speak it with fluency, expression and little bit of MC Grammar style. The focus book for the whole school was Little Rabbit Foo Foo. The children learnt part of the story off by heart and performed it to the rest of the school, we added actions, sound effects and poses to our section. Ask your child if they can perform it for you at home, to see what we put together. We also shared some of our favourite stories and watched some of MC Grammar's stories and songs online. Thank you to everyone who came along at 2.30pm to share stories with your child, they absolutely love having you in the classroom and I'm sure it made their World Book Day one to remember.

This week we have continued to look at maps and routes. Together we mapped out the route Rosie the hen took in the story 'Rosie's Walk.' We then used the map to help us retell the story, using the different positional language at each point, including: across, past, under, over, around and through.

Congratulation to everyone who entered the 'Design a Goonie' competition, your entries were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed looking through them all. A special mention to Oliver, who was runner up in the Early Years Foundation Stage and well done to Maisie from Badgers, who was the winner.

In maths this week we have been learning all about numbers 9 and 10. We have been counting groups and sorting them, we have also been identifying where we can see 9 and 10 in the environment. The children have been ordering numbers and identifying missing numbers to 10. Next week we will begin to look at the composition of 9 and 10, you could practise this at home. Collect 9 or 10 objects (toys, sweets, grapes, buttons etc) ask your child to split them into two group, how many in each group and how many altogether?

Next week is Science Week at school and we will complete a different experiment each day. On Thursday, we will have a lamb in school and the children will learn all about lambs and how they grow and change. We will link this to our work on signs of Spring. Next week, we will talk about the season of spring and the changes which happen at this time of year. To support this you may want to go out this weekend and look for signs of spring around where you live.

Once again, many thanks for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean and Miss Wain.
