Science Week
We have absolutely loved Science Week!
The week started with a very exciting assembly, led my Mrs Jackson (Science Lead). This really motivated the children and they couldn't wait to see what we would be learning throughout the week. We started each afternoon with a different science experiment, including pouring warm water in the centre of a circle of skittles, adding 'Mentos' to a bottle of pop and watching the explosion, learning about wind power by holding flappy fish races and using air power to make a rocket fly into the sky. The children also got to meet a real lamb, which came to school on Thursday afternoon. The lamb, which the children have since named 'Ellie', came to visit us from Mrs Chapman's farm. The children learnt about living creatures and the similarities and difference between themselves and a lamb, They learnt that a lamb grows and changes, just as the children do and that when it is older, the lamb will become a sheep.
We have continued to learn about the season of 'spring' and the changes which usually happen at this time of the year.
The children have continued to reinforce the Phase 3 sounds in their daily phonics lessons, focusing on reading and spelling longer words, with more than one syllable. For example, this week the children have read words like: thinker, velvet, fantastic, farmer, shorter, helmet, singer and many more.
In maths this week, we have been learning all about number 10 and the different ways we can make 10. Many of the children can recall 5 and 5, as a way to make 10 already. Support your child by giving them a number 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, can they tell you how many more they need to make 10? Remind them they have 10 fingers which can really help if they are unsure.
Next week we will continue our work on 'Around the Town.' Our Book of The Week is 'Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy.'
A few dates for your diary:
Wed 26th March - we are walking the children down to visit the Fire Station.
Thurs 27th March - 2pm Marvellous Maths Stay & Play session (we would love to see you in school)
Thurs 27th March - 6pm - Family Quiz Night

Just to make you aware, we now have had two children with Chicken Pox in the class. If your child hasn't had them yet, please be vigilant, the children can often be unwell of a couple of days before any spots appear.
Have a lovely weekend.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Mrs Dean & Miss Wain
