Welcome back!
Welcome back after the Easter break!
Just a few reminders about the summer term. PE is now on a Thursday, so please make sure your child arrives at school in their PE kit on a Thursday. If your child wears earrings, please make sure these are removed or covered on a Thursday. If your child has long hair, please make sure it is tied up away from their face.
Thank you to everyone who has sent in a water bottle. These are certainly encouraging the children to drink more, which is very important as the weather improves. If you haven't sent in a water bottle for your child yet, please send in a named water bottle after the weekend. We will keep this bottle in school and wash it and fill it with clean water each day.
Sun safety information has been sent out this week, please ensure you read our policy and send in a sun hat for your child to wear while they are outside. It would really help us if you could apply a long lasting sun cream before the start of the school day. If you wish your child to top up their sun cream at lunchtime, please send in a named bottle of appropriate sun cream, please see the school policy. Roll on sun creams are excellent for young children to apply themselves.
This week, we have begun our new topic of 'In the Garden.' The children have enjoyed our book of the week, 'The Extraordinary Gardener'. On Wednesday we read, 'Sam Plants a Sunflower,' and all the children planted their own sunflower seed. We have discussed the different things which grow from seeds and what a plant needs to grow and stay healthy. Next week, we will make some zippy bag greenhouses and attempt to grow some bean plants in them.
This week we have continued our daily phonics lessons. During the summer term the children will complete Phase 4 phonics, they will attempt to read and spell words with adjacent consonants at the beginning or the end. This week we have read and spelt words such as: went, band, lift, lost, thump & tenth. This week the children have been practising writing dictated sentences independently in their new 'sentence book.' This activity will increase the children's independence and confidence in preparation for their transition to Year 1 in September.
In maths this week, we have been learning about the composition of numbers greater than 10. They have been making the numbers 11 to 20 with cubes and Numicon pieces. The children have made 12 by selection a ten and a two, or by building a tower with ten blue cubes and 2 yellow cubes. We will continue to look at numbers greater than 10 next week.
Next week our book of the week will be 'Oliver's Vegetables,' and we will look at different vegetables and where they grow. The children will also be drawing vegetables in their sketching books.
If you would like to practise writing some more sentences at home over the weekend, here are two more for you to try:
- The cook had a look in the book.
- I can zoom to the moon in my rocket.
As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Dean & Miss Wain
